Hope everyone had a great weekend! I spent mine making wholesale orders, playing with the dog in the hose, and teaching my 7 year old to ride a bike sans training wheels. The bike riding was fun because I got to see her excitement in getting better as the day went on. Reminded me of my beloved 70's bike with the awesome banana seat :)

The giveaway for today is this vintage Shift Lock adjustable ring. It is a little battle scarred from wear but nothing to bad- I like to call that character! The ring is currently a size six but can go larger. Rhodium plated so it is shiny silver in color.

I finally have a chance to take a breather and wish everyone Happy Holidays! This has been a crazy but wonderful year with me becoming part of The Vintage Pearl family which I absolutely LOVE and creating new items for my own shop. Looking forward to the New Year!

One of the fun perks at work was our Christmas party- afterwords we got to make pieces and I had been wanting to make a cuff with this saying.

This is my last gift from my secret sister- I screamed like a 5 year old because I love Chickens!!

One of my new projects was to move forward with spoon bracelets etc.. I have done them previously but wanted to learn more and get it down to a science- which I have! I made this for my neighbor who loves to garden. This can be a little marker in her herb garden.

New Design...Finally!

About a year ago I decided I wanted to expand my designs beyond typewriter keys and had 2 ideas; wax seal stamps or hand stamped designs. I ended up going the route of wax seal designs and haven't regretted it. One of my main inspirations was a 18k gold necklace my SIL and MIL have they got from Shop NBC. It had their initial and a beautiful background pattern on it.

I spent many late nights doing as much research as possible on every facet of this art form and I am still learning something new almost everyday. When someone told me my ideas wouldn't work I was more determined than ever to *make it work* I must admit I was feeling pretty proud of myself when I finished this piece :) So now that I know what I do the sky is the limit !

ER Trip and Monday Giveaway

I am a bit behind on today's giveaway as I had a detour this morning at the ER-Bleh! Looks like the old gallbladder will be moving on to an industrial bio hazard wastebasket shortly. So the big question is what will life be like without a gallbladder? Am I being presumptive- it could just be acid reflux. Who knows- it's all just a big question mark- which brings me to today's giveaway.

I made this necklace with a vintage Smith Corona black question mark key. The material is celluloid which can get wet and not be damaged. Silver plated lace edge setting and an 18" nickel plated ball chain. If you want a different length chain I can do that :)

Can You DIg It?

Today we visited Gilcrease Museum to see some of my daughters artwork. Of course we had to hit the gift shop and I found this fun little item. It is a rock and mineral excavation kit called *Dig It Out* It is about the size of a bar of soap and comes with 3 tools. Inside are 2 gems or minerals- I was pleasantly surprised to discover 2 as I thought there would only be 1.

After about 5 minutes of *digging* we could begin to see something! This is quite exciting for a 7 year old and I must admit that I enjoyed it as well. I wanted to be a paleontologist when I was a kid and this would have been an awesome item to have but the 70's didn't roll that way.

After 10 minutes or so we realized there were 2 items inside- what a deal for $3.95!!

Still trying to identify what we got- the package has some pictures on it and there is a guide book inside that has the tiniest writing in it I have ever seen so I am still working on it. All in all it was a fun item, we had some good quality time together and learned at the same time.

Itty Bitty Fine Silver Initial Necklace

Someone several months ago asked me about doing small charms with initials and I finally came up with something I liked the past few days. I made these using PMC or Precious Metal Clay. They are 99.9% silver (classified as fine silver)

I love initials and I love PMC. It is a great medium to work with. I have so many ideas floating around in my head and supplies for new projects on the way. I will be stalking the mailman next week! Look for more new pieces soon.

I am so grateful to my wonderful boss who offered me a position and to the many friends I have made already.

Today I picked out a necklace to remind me of my kids (they aren't hard to remember but now they are with me all the time in spirit)

I chose the Eclectic Necklace and added some copper shapes into the mix. I LOVE IT!! I really love jewelry- really I do- but I rarely wear it however, I will be wearing this every day as it is just too cool!. The girls at work are so talented and I can't say enough good about them.

I was trying to come up with a fun Halloween giveaway when I remembered my friend
Hello Crafty had this awesome skull soap.
Life is full of people who come and go in your life, Some make an impression and others do not. I am happy to say that Hello Crafty has made an impression on me. I can't remember which soap I bought first from her but I loved it. I think it might have been Nag Champa? or was it Green Grass or Beach Days? I love the excitement of opening one of of packages and inhaling the goodness.

HC isn't just someone who throws some craft store ingredients into a mold. She is a true soap maker and it shows and she always seems to come up with amazing smells and designs. My daughter (who is 7) is a fan already. She wants to know if the soap can be taped to her face so she can smell it all day.

HC went on a hiatus a while back and I was sad and missed her. When we spoke she imparted words of wisdom about what was really important in life and her experience got me to do some thinking and make some changes myself. Though we haven't met I consider her a friend which is a rare thing these days.

Now on to the fun stuff!!

I am obsessed with Wax Seal Jewelry to say the least. I like working with alloys and fine silver- each has it's advantages.

I really like painting them and giving them a weathered look in all kinds of different colors. Haven't had much luck selling them though. I keep telling myself they will catch on and I need to advertise but I can hardly find the time to research rates. For right now they are more something I enjoy making than getting rich on.

Just another typical evening when I noticed this gal. Spiders have been hanging out in all sorts of creepy places lately. They just love to weave their web at eyeball height- major creep factor when you walk into it.
I haven't seen this particular variety of Orb Weaver for a few years so I just had to snap a picture. Orb Weavers tear down and rebuild their web each night. Imagine all that work every evening!

Light's Out Book Review

Really enjoyed the story Lights Out by Halffast that I came across on Frugal Squirrels

Basically some type of EMP (Electro-Magnetic Pulse) has been used on America/World and the story follows *Mark* through the experiences of no electricity in Texas. It is a bit more complicated than that though- as most cars aren't working, as well as the city water. Grocery stores are limiting purchases to $50 with long lines and bare shelves.

It doesn't take much for society to break down and Mark, along with friends,family,and neighbors must do whatever he can to survive.

I think this book was pretty accurate about what might happen and how people will react. It gave me some ideas and direction in areas I might have overlooked.

What's Cookin

I am always going forward BUT I usually go backwards first especially when I tell a story. I can't just say *This is what I made for dinner* I must tell the back story first. Don't know where I got it from but that is just how I am.

So I ordered the weekend edition of the Tulsa World as a Christmas present for my husband. I am not a big newspaper reader but I have been making an effort to read it. Last week there was an article about The $5 Dinner Mom which I really enjoyed. I checked out her website and her challenge to herself was to create healthy meals for her family for under $5.

This website appealed to me for several reasons. I have been making an effort to eat healthier and most of her recipes are made from scratch. I don't think they ALL are but they don't use a lot of processed ingredients. She inspired me to be a bit more creative and not waste so much food. I might not make her recipes exactly but I do use them for inspiration.

She does make use of store specials and coupons which I don't as I am somewhat limited to Walmart right now. I used to be the coupon queen myself years ago but right now my focus is on not eating processed foods first and money savings second. I buy a lot of store brand stuff/ bulk anyways so I think I can forgo the coupon cutting for the time being.

Tonight I de boned leftover crock pot chicken that I marinated in Caribbean Jerk sauce. Sadly I saw the first ingredient was High Fructose Corn Syrup but I wanted to use up the bottle and not waste it. I sauteed white onion and mixed in the chicken.
The meat went onto rolls I had picked up on the discount rack and sliced them in half. Home made french fries (actually baked) and fresh raw peas rounded out dinner.

I don know if this meal was under $5 but I think it was for all 4 of us. I think it was pretty healthy overall and my only complaint was the sauce which was full of chemicals but I won't worry to much!

Cut to the chase.. Found this movie on Netflix and it seemed to be highly rated so I cued it up. I had read the synopsis so I knew what it was about and it exceeded my expectations. I laughed and cried and cried some more. Absolutely heart wrenching and it really touched me in a way that can only be understood by my husband. This movie will stay in my thoughts for a long while

Chicken vs Dog

We had a nice little treat for dinner of T bones,crab legs, and lobster tails. Homer sat so patiently waiting for his cut! I threw the t bone out the back door thinking the chickens were all in bed but noooooo they were not and they were quite interested in the bone as well.

A few girls ventured up to Homer to check out the grubb but he picked up the bone and ran off. About 3 minutes later I decided to check on him and went outside. He didn't have the bone and seemed to be looking for it and the chickens were running around as well.

Doing a quick count I realized Cowgirl was missing and I spotted her clear on the other side of the yard backed up into the corner. As I approached her with 5 chickens and a dog tailing me I saw that she had commandeered the missing bone. She must have snatched it away from Homer!

I got the bone back and brought Homer inside with it. I gave it to him and he promptly disappeared. I found him under the Christmas tree making sure no one would find him or his bone.

I am in heaven!

I won't bore you with the details but I stumbled upon the group Vitamin String Quartet on You Tube and I am hooked. The group covers some of my favorite songs and groups from AC/DC and Led Zeppelin to Green Day and Evanescence all on violin,viola,cello, and bass.

I am having a hard time deciding on my favorites but I enjoy No Doubts *Don't Speak* so I will leave you with that.

I was really fighting watching this movie for some reason. My 6 year old wanted to see it and I just did not! Not sure what I had against it but I took her to see it and I loved it!! I cried during the Carl and Ellie montage and at the end when Carl looked at Ellie's scrapbook. I can give this a big 2 thumbs UP!

Paranormal Activity

So my brother and I are talking and he tells me about this movie *Paranormal Activity* He said it was very scary and good. Knowing he is a no nonsense 30 year old law student I was intrigued that something would scare him.

Off we go to the theater and one of my daughters calls to say she just saw it and it isn't scary. Great! So now I am kind of not sure what to expect. I went with my husband, another of my daughters and her boyfriend.

I really enjoyed it for several reasons. One- I was scared! Two-I enjoyed the simplicity of something like noises in the night being terrifying. Three- I think it is something that could happen.

There are 2 endings to the film. The one shown in theaters and suggested by Steven Spielberg is the one I prefer. I watched the *alternate* or original ending and although I understood the concept and idea I didn't care for the acting I guess. I don't know what it was about it.

If you liked the Blair Witch Project you might enjoy this.

Yes, I vape

I can proudly admit that I am a vaper now. I had heard about electronic cigarettes on the Etsy forums and saw a review on you tube someone linked to. I liked the review because the fellow was from the UK and his accent was a hoot to listen to.

I kind of got hung up on the accent and filed the e cig idea in the back of my brain. My daughter came over with an ecig about a month ago and I tried it. I must say I enjoyed it and thought it might be a way for me to quit smoking. We ordered some supplies and I gave it a whirl. It took me about a week to run out of my analogs (regular cigarettes) and I made the switch. I am almost at 2 weeks without an analog and am very proud of myself. Considering I have not gone a single day without a cigarette in 13 years this is a big deal for me.

In the future I will post more about how I am doing, FAQ,supplies,mods,etc..

Mr Darcy

What is it about Mr Darcy??? I finally decided to get into the swing of things and see the BBC production with Colin Firth. I enjoyed the first half especially Mr Bennet's whit. As I came up to the second half I sort of thought *What is the big deal with this* as I enjoyed it but wasn't bowled over with emotion. A good, emotional movie for me is Braveheart and this wasn't exactly the same. However at some point when Mr. Darcy spoke I found myself getting teary eyed and really rooting for him.

I guess this must be the magic that is Pride and Prejudice? I have always wanted to find out the secret since I watched *You've got mail*

That scene has been in my head since the movie came out! SO I thoroughly enjoyed the BBC production and decided to do some reading so I picked up Pride and Prejudice and Zombies and loved it! Once again Mr. Darcy is dashing and a kick ass zombie killer.

Next up is Pride and Prejudice with Keira Knightly and Lost in Austen about a girl getting thrown back in time into the novel.

Sports Candy Sundae

My 5 year old enjoys watching VHS tapes of Lazy Town which features *Sportacus* the local hero who is always encouraging kids not to be lazy and saving citizens in trouble. Very campy, but Sportacus calls apples *Sports Candy* and my daughter has picked up on the theme.

I put together a *Sports Sundae* for her that looks appealing,tastes great, and is healthy. Vanilla Yogurt, frozen berries, and grape nuts is all it takes.

My Little Girls

I have had my 6 little chicks for 2 weeks now and they are growing every day.

I am allowed to have 6 *fowl* within the city limits. Taking my neighbor into account I passed on Turkeys,Ducks, and Geese. I read up like crazy and had a site in mind to purchase exactly what I wanted but the minimum order is 25 so that idea fell flat.

That left me having to visit the local Atwoods. I chose 3 Pullets (I know this means a girl but have not figured out the breed yet) who my 5 year old named

I also picked out 3 Bantams- the guys at Atwoods seemed to think they could identify females even though they aren't supposed to- I can't wait to see if they were right!

One Day At A Time

Some of the changes I have made take time! So I try to look at one day at a time.

Wii fit- Day #26 I have earned my silver piggy bank ( 20 Hours) and almost have a gold one! I am pretty regular on it M-F for at least an hour. I have probably lost 5 pounds since I started.

No caffeine - Day #8 That was a lot easier than I thought! No problem at all...

Walking the Dogs - Day #5 I take each dog (I have 2) on a walk around the lake separately. That gets me and them some exercise.

Body Cleanse - Day #2 Something I did about 20 years ago and it tasted so horrible that I was afraid to do it again. This product tastes fine though. I will be doing this for about 3 months.

One more item to take care of which I will probably start next week. They say you can't eat an elephant all in one bite so I am taking it one day at a time...

Dog Mystery Partially Solved

About this time last year I had the opportunity to foster 4 out of 9 puppies who were dumped in a barn. They were described as *Spaniel Mix* and as puppies they looked quite a but like Spaniels. I adopted 3 out and kept one who we named Fenway.
As time passed Fenway seemed less and less like a spaniel and more like some type of hound. Not a Basset or Blood hound. Over the weekend I caught a dog show on tv and happened to see the hound group. Low and behold an American Foxhound came out and I said *BINGO* that is Fenway!
He is still a mix with something else- maybe a spaniel but now I know that he is probably a Foxhound. He has all the characteristics of this breed as well. Not earth shattering news but it was nice to solve a little mystery- still need to work on dog #2 who we call Little Bear...

Caffiene Diary

I decided to cut down on my soda intake today. Pathetically, this is a really hard thing for me to do as I chug Diet Dr. Thunder(Walmart version of Diet. Dr. Pepper)
like there is no tomorrow. Certain things in life I have fallen into a routine with and having a soda first thing in the morning is one of them. After thinking about it though it might have a lot to do with drinking from a straw that forms my habit.
This morning about 10 am I washed my embarrassingly large soda mug and put it away.
I have been drinking Crystal Light peach tea in water bottles all day. I am on my 5th 8 oz bottle, I do have a headache but I feel pretty good. I know it will get easier.
This was on my to do list and now I can at least partially cross it off as started on!

Second the name BUY MY CRAP is pure genius!! I find humor very appealing and besides I like the items for sale. Resin rings in mouth watering colors. I have never really though about a resin ring before but I love the patterns and colors.

The Day After Tomorrow

I am talking about the movie here!
If you live in a severe weather area this is all familiar to you- if you lived in Arizona like I did for over 20 years and then move to a place like Oklahoma you need to do some adjusting!

I have learned to be prepared- have a generator,bags of salt,oil lamps,flashlights,emergency radio,etc.. What I find most fascinating is that when severe weather is coming the grocery store is where the action is. I stopped by yesterday after my friend told me that the approaching weather might snap power lines in the next few days.

Sundays are a somewhat busy day but severe weather shopping always stops me dead in my tracks because I have a tendency to watch people (there are twice as many as usual) and become speechless at the empty shelves. Milk,OJ,and egg areas are decimated as well as meat. Actually pretty much anything is gone. You see huge areas of empty shelves and cardboard boxes all over the floor. Everyone's shopping cart is completely full. Not being prepared can be the difference between life and death for some people.

In 2007 we had massive storm that was the worst in 100 years. The entire candle and lamp oil shelve was completely empty and it is a pretty big area. No power for 10 days means I was filling up gas cans for the generator every other day (along with everyone else) and eating meals at QT. When even Walmart is without power you know it is bad.

So maybe it won't be so bad in the next few days but better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it....

Wii Diary

The Wii Fit is a daily part of my life now. I use it every day,although I did miss last weekend. I start off with Yoga and then move on to Aerobics. I prefer the step aerobics and rhythm boxing the most. I do like to Hoola Hoop though!I usually finish up with some strength training and ski jump or tight rope for fun.
I spend about 1 hour and 20 minutes on average using it and still haven't gotten bored.

Lot's of Wii activity to report!

My Wii fit arrived about 6 days ago and I just opened it up today- more on that later..

Still plugging along with Samba De Amigo- I picked up an extra Nun Chuck so my daughter and I can play together since she was hogging it all the time. We have fun with the mini games and have even tried the medium setting.

Won my first tennis match today on Wii Sports- Woo Hoo- this is a big deal as I have been getting smoked on a regular basis.

Tried boxing and KO's the first 5 opponents

Decided to give Golf a try-uh oh- VERY addictive. It's pretty much the PGA tour here the last 3 days. All of us play and DH is completely addicted to it now.

So I set up my Wii Fit tonite and subjected myself to letting it tell me I was out of shape- like I didn't know that but at least it was in a friendly voice!

Yoga- won't even go there- I am horrible
Strength- hit or miss on those
Aerobics- loved it! Did some hula hoops and step aerobics.
Balance Board- Decent on the ball in the hole

Spent 32 minutes on the fit, unlocked some new things, and had a blast.

Life's hard questions take time to answer....
For childhood memories I give 1 point to Hostess. I remember a specific time of being in our car in the 70's on a road trip and eating a Suzy Q and then getting a massive headache but still a good memory. At the bottom of my Hostess list would be Sno Balls- almost need to remove a point for that nastiness.

Little Debbie- definitely what I usually reach for these days. Big fan of snack cakes and Swiss cake rolls. Oh and Nutty bars as well.

Wii Diary

I finally got a Wii for Christmas- yay!! Since then I have tried out the games that came with it. My favorite is bowling, followed by tennis and baseball. Haven't done the boxing yet but it's on my to do list.
Yesterday, I got my first new game Samba De Amigo. I picked this one because I live music and I wanted something like DDR but without having to move my feet unless I wanted. The object is to shake your controller like a maraca at the right moment.
My 5 year old was intrigued and went from watching me,to dancing along with me,to hijacking the game. She can play the game no problem and it was the first thing she wanted to do this morning when she woke up. We have started out on easy level and are using the Pose settings- will try the Hustle settings sometime soon. My husband even tried it and had a good time. Thankfully I am better at it than he is- I was worried because he kicks my but in bowling and baseball and I was looking to save face.
My Wii fit arrived today so I will give it a whirl and report back.

Yes I visited you last night at Utica Square- the fancy area of Tulsa because my 16 year old was missing you. Me- I never missed you but I wanted to make her happy.
Your hostess was kind enough to send 3 tables to the same waiter at the same time instead of spreading us out. Looking at your menu I couldn't find anything that interested me but I settled for ravioli in marinara sauce.
I patiently awaited the salad and bread sticks which arrived after about 10 minutes of ordering our food. Your service was quite slow and the food was mediocre. The only redeeming quality was desert.
Do not be sad- the waiter managed the best he could and didn't get the shaft on the tip. I really wanted to tell the huge line that had materialized when we exited to go somewhere else but I bit my tongue. Hopefully I will not see you again any time soon...

Another weekend craft with my daughter. This time we made some ghosts for the front yard trees. It would have been easier to just buy some at the store but not as fun.

I had some leftover white fleece so that seemed like a good place to start. I took some empty 2 liter soda bottles and poked a hole in the bottom then put some floral wire through it for a hanger. I left my 5 year old paint faces on the fleece then draped the material over the soda bottle. The wire went through the fabric easy as pie and a ghost was born. I used a little spray adhesive to get the material in the right place and we hung them up.

We had fun and it didn't cost a dime.

Ah the joys of being a Red Sox fan! I must confess that I have only been a fan since 1996 when I met my husband who is from Boston. Before that I was an Atlanta Braves freak. However I am a fan now for better or worse.
I always expect my boys to win but I must admit being down 3-1 was not a good feeling. I don't remember feeling that way with the Yanks or Indians but I might have. I feel good about game 7 now and will be expecting a win.
So I have made this observation about Kevin Youkilis that he really looks like Youkon Cornelious. It cracks me up every time I think about it!

We did a little DIY version for her this weekend. I cut up various cereal boxes, added some paper inside and stapled them. She now has about 4 of these cereal box journals and loves them.

Last week I took down a birdhouse from one of the trees. My friend Mary gave it to me about 20 years ago and we have dragged it from house to house and state to state. Living in Oklahoma some birds actually took up residence in it and had babies in the springs.

I set it on the ground and went about my business only to hear the dog barking soon after. He was completely curious about it and was pawing and barking at it. Then he pawed at it and the bird house flipped back towards him and scared him half to death! The house is his favorite toy now and maybe it has something to do with the smell. He flips it around, lays on it,runs around with it, and generally loves it. So much for *dog* toys.

Potato Pancakes

Thanks to Dan Quayle I always spell Potato correctly! So someone on Etsy mentioned Potato Pancakes and it sounded like a good dinner plan. I don't think I have ever made them before but I know my FIL loves them.

Recipe was simple:

POTATO PANCAKES (Latkes) FOR HANNUKAH

4 med. potatoes 1 sm. onion 1/2 c. pancake mix1/2 c. oil 1 tsp. salt

2 tbsp. sour cream2 eggs1/2 tsp. pepper
Peel potatoes and grate into a bowl. Pour off extra liquid. Peel onion and grate into potatoes.

Add eggs, pancake mix, sour cream, salt and pepper. Mix well.
Heat oil until it sizzles. Drop a tbsp. at a time of batter into hot oil. Flatten with a pancake turner. When bottoms are brown turn them over. When done remove and drain on paper towel lined plate. Serve with applesauce, sour cream or just plain.

The stuff looked like barf in the bowl so I figured I was on the right track.

They were quite tasty as well. Mr.Keys put sour cream on his and I opted for a bit of salt.

Even a fussy 5 year old said 2 thumbs up!

It's the playoffs baby!

Fall means baseball playoffs! Well it only means playoffs if my beloved Red Sox are in there and they are! Tonite is Game 1 of the ALCS against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

I am always optomistic when it comes to the Sox. If they are playing a better team I don't care- I always know they will win- I mean I really hope they make it to the world series. I would love to see the Sox and Dodgers make it.

I am a team fan but also get attached to certain players as well. I was really mad that Johnny Damon left but I have gotten over that now. I am still upset about Manny. I liked *Manny being Manny* and wasn't looking at the bigger picture. I have decided I like Jason Bay as a replacement so it is all good.

My favorite player is Jacoby Ellsbury ( I even named a foster puppy after him) and love watching him play.

Can't wait to watch the game tonite.

Sometimes you spend a lot of time on something and it sells before you can blink!
Case in point is this bracelet I made. I have been thinking about this idea for several months and slowly making my way towards it.
I liked the spoon bracelet idea but not just any spoon bracelet- I wanted it to be unique and I think I achieved that. Even with the tools I had I did practice alot and wasn't happy with the results until this past week.
Making this was a 2 fold process- the actual work and then some thoughts. Lots of people make spoon bracelets but I couldn't really find any info on HOW to make them as I ran into some specific issues. Hmmmmmm.... it sure would be easy if someone just spilled the beans on the specifics but I wasn't going to ask, besides I need to practice what I preach, which is "grab some tools and experiment- it will make you a better crafter" that statement seemd to be biting me in the ass now!
All in all I got through it,learned a lot,and am ready to make another one.

My Maytag washer has been a workhorse for 12 years and I am a bit attached to it. Lately it has been on the fritz and not advancing to the next cycle. I have been coaxing it along until I realized I need to do something a bit more.

*More* could mean several things. The idea of starting to scrub clothes by hand with a washboard just sounded archaic and time consuming. So I browsed some ads and saw that you can spend a pretty penny on the new washers. They are very energy efficient these days and the idea of a front loader reminds me of grandma (which is always a good thing) but I really didn't want to shell out for something if I didn't have to.

Plan C (which really should be plan A because it was my first choice) was to see if I could figure out what was wrong. I love to tinker with things so I got some tools and started taking the panel apart. I knew the problem was with the timer so I unhooked that area and had a look-see. behind the panel was a big metal box that was the timer. After removing a small plastic cover I could see the cams and realized one was not firing properly ( which could be deduced by the spark when it did catch)

Now to see about ordering a part- but trying to figure out a model number wasn't working as there are tons of numbers all over the machine. I hit the website AppliancePartsPros which told me exactly where to find the model number. The part was available for about $75 including shipping and arrived today.

Now for the big test! Was this the problem? Could I install it? Could I not break anything WHILE installing it? How in the world was I going to install it? I couldn't see anyway to remove the metal box. After thinking about it I decided to see if access was available through the front nob and after popping the cap off- voila I was in business. It took me about 15 minutes to remove and replace and then for the big test!

My 5 year old new the washer was acting up so I made it a fun game for her- we fill it up with water,clothes,soap,and fabric softener and then voted if we thought it would start agitating when I closed the lid. She voted that I had repaired it correctly ( Thanks Gracie) I made it a big deal for her to shut the lid and see what happened and it worked!!!

I am pretty proud of myself :)

Tulsa State Fair

I love the fair. I haven't figured out why they call it the Tulsa State Fair but no matter.

The Tulsa fair is heavy on livestock, trucks,farming,and animals.

One of the big draws is the birthing center where you can watch pigs give birth- standing room only with grandstand seats! My favorite part is the petting zoo. I could spend all day there.

We hit the fair early and did lots of rides before the crowds showed up. Compared to Phoenix the crowds are light though.

This year I sampled Corn Dogs and Frozen Chocolate covered Cheesecake- Yummy

I did have a taste of a frozen Margarita, barbeque chicken and beef, and steak dinner.

We all kind of shared whatever we got so no one really got too much of anything.

I also had to hit the vendors and got myself a nice Tulsa State Fair Hoodie and a 15 minute massage. We sampled candy, looked at pianos, and I kissed Sarah Palin.

To top off the night my daughter and I rode the Skyscraper. I had ridden it it twice in Phoenix about 6 years ago and loved it. The Skyscraper is about 160 feet tall and goes 70 miles per hour.

It is funny because every year we would drive to Sand Diego we would pass throught the area of the huge windmills and I would always say "I wonder if they strapped someone on the blades what kind of ride that would be" well someone beat me to it and invented it!

Last but not least on the way out the sea lions had finished their show and were available for pictures. They were 2 females trained to put their head on your shoulder and pose. They were so cute and it was amazing to see one up close. They were very soft but sure smelled like fish!

My sweashirt was the source of a chewing episode for the dog when I got home.

Looking forward to next year!

The Mis Adventures of Raggedy Ann Part 2

I ended up finishing Raggedy Ann in time for my daughters birthday! I pulled a few late nighters and when I did work on a few pieces in front of her I told her it was a pincushion.

It isn't perfect but I am pretty happy with the way it came out.

My daughters birthday is in a few days and she asked for a Raggedy Ann doll. No problemo- Mr Keys is going to Toys R Us to get a few things and I see they carry it. Whoops- they don't and haven't had it in the store in months. She only asked for 4 items so I thought I would see if it was at Walmart- nope!

Plan B- look for a pattern in the fabric section- they actually had one in stock! Think really hard about this. I just got a sewing machine from my Uncle after going years without one that worked. I haven't cut a pattern in at least 12 years hmmmmm.... Her wanting the doll outweighed all that.

Look at fabric choices- the pattern shows a nasty Daisy Kingdom print that is probably not even made any more. Grab some yarn for the hair- the red is just so red though so I picked a deep red. Grab red and white striped material then realize it doesn't look right with the yarn and I like the yarn.

Think outside the box and find some coordinating fabric that will match perfectly with the yarn.

Not really traditional Raggedy Ann but I think it will work. Read pattern and see a bunch of notions I need which I probably have already but I can't remember so I buy them.

As I take my fabric bolts to be cut I realize this is my last chance to ditch the project.... hand fabric to be cut. No going back now. To be continued........

Where do I even start?? I rarely, if ever, post in political threads on Etsy. They all seem to end in name calling and stupidity. Some trolls just can not have a serious discussion. It is unfortunate that it has to come to threads being closed.
It is being reported that the Republican VP nominee Sarah Palin's 17 year old daughter is pregnant. Oh , the horror!! Guess what?? I don't really care if she is pregnant- really, I don't!

I don't know the Palin family so I who am I to judge?? I didn't get riled up when Obama's pastor was all over the news either! When it comes to politics- I either like the canidate or don't- that is just how I roll.

Obama- I like him but I don't know all his policies, haven't really studied that much.
McCain- meh.. I was a huge fan when I live in AZ but he just doesn't do anything for me
Biden- no opinion really
Palin- I like her, I hardly know much about her though- but I like that she fishes!

So you can see that my perspective is a bit skewed- I like someone or I don't.

The only candidate that really sparked my interest and I read all about and studied was Ron Paul and we all know how that turned out.....
I like good political or religous discussion. I tend to make my statements about how I feel on the subject and leave it at that. I ask questions in a nice way and don't attack others with differing opinions. That is just how I roll.
Whoever the next president is I hope they do a good job.

The mailman delivered 2 little packages but they were outstanding!
First off these hilarious cards from ScotiaMade I got cute mini notes to tuck in a lunch box or as a surprise anywhere but the BEST part was the surprise she added for being her 500th sale.
The mini notes features squirrels saying funny things- her shop says * You will laugh till you wee* and I found this to be true- I even tested them on my neighbor and she was laughing as well.

The surprise notes were for people that SUCK when they park. You know the type- hogging 2 spaces, parking right next to the corner, general rudeness. I am dying to get out and find and asshat to use them on. If you have read my posts about * What really grinds my gears* you will know my neighbors are perfect candidates for these!

Next package was from ThreeDogParty A Set of 4 hand-stamped postcards featuring a typewriter with wings- how appropriate for me! I quickly ordered some stamps for postcards and can't wait to send these out. Sometimes it seems it is all about email these days.

Don't you just love neighbors? Especially ones that you can't figure out. These neighbors have had 9 cars in the driveway,lawn,and street at one time. I have been remiss in my car counting lately as I have been distracted by other fun things to look at on their property.

For shits and giggles I thought I would see how many days the gas cans would lay on the lawn. They must be empty or they would have been snagged long ago with the price of gas these days. Currently I am on day 22 of my gas can watch. Leaving gas cans on the lawn is no crime and it isn't a super eye sore- it just peaks my curiosity as to why the residence keep walking by them and don't pick them up.

So maybe you are tired and don't want to bring in the trash, or is it easier to leave it at the curb because all your cars block your driveway? Guess what neighbor, we live in Oklahoma and we have raccoons. Wildlife+trash=mess- duh! Haven't you seen Over The Hedge- guess that is a big NO.
I am sure the sanitation workers just love pulling up to your house! Let's see it trash day- make sure we move the cars off the lawn and onto the street so the trash guys have to block the whole road getting our trash can and spend 15 minutes picking it all up.

I have lived in neighborhoods with strict association rules and I don't care for the gestapo mentality of those associations. Just a little neighborhood pride would be nice.

How it got there I have no idea but I have some observations.

Using good Flickr Titles has helped my obtain front page status.

Flickr and Etsy items of mine are ahead of my OS Commerce site for some reason.

My Ebay store I don't see- I am not very active on it though.

I am wondering if rankings have to do with activity at all?

Etsy and Flickr I use heavily so my theory would be supported.

Today I received the phone call I was dreading. My dear Uncle Paul had passed away. It is hard to put into words my sadness. Uncle Paul has survived throat and bladder cancer. He recently became ill and the cancer was in his spine.
I was able to speak to him last week before he passed on and for that I am grateful. He was a special person- always happy, full of life. A former Navy Seal he was in great shape and always looked younger than he was.

My greatest memories of Uncle Paul are from our appearance on Family Feud in 1992. Paul held down the last spot for our family. His answers were always a bit out there but the producers loved him.

What might you find in a glove box? His answer- Love Letters
Name something you might see going down the street besides a parade.. His answer- a parade

My stupid ex husband said * Ray, can we play with 4 people?* Ray Combs said " Uh, I think you already are" Lots of boos followed as the audience liked Paul. We were on the show a total of 7 times I think and I still have the tape.
Uncle Paul was 75- he looked younger and his spirit was young- I know the end was painful and that he is in a better place but it is never easy saying goodbye. RIP Uncle Paul

Trip into T ~ Town

It was all quiet here last week ( ie: I was the only one home for 10 days) which meant I was working non stop. I did take a trip Sunday into Tulsa- kind of felt like Laura Ingalls going into the *Big City*. It was soo quiet downtown- and I got some great pictures.
Plenty of churches downtown- this one was nice but I have to wonder if someone is locked up in those rooms up there.

Tulsa has some wonderful downtown architecture. This Gargoyle is on the Atlas Building

Weekend Movie Review

We rented 4 movies this weekend.

No Country For Old Men ~ This scared the crap out of me but I loved it. The ending was not the typical Hollywood movie ending so I had to ponder it. Mr. Keys actually liked it which is a surprise because he is so picky.

High School Musical ~ Loved it! Reminded me of Grease and I thought it was cute.

National Treasure 2 Book of Secrets ~ So So- Pretty much a repeat of the first one.

PS I Love You ~ I am about 1/2 way through it. Haven't formed an opinion yet.
